on lingshan in quanzhou, a huge stone stands on a rocky base. it is the famous wind-swaying stone, known in ancient times as one of the eight scenic views of quanzhou, called “jade ball stirred by the wind.”
the stone is about 3.5 meters high, 6 meters long, and around 2 meters thick and wide. it stands proudly on a large rock platform, leaning slightly to one side. in the past, this place lay outside the city, and the stone was exposed to wind and sunlight every day. the rock is hard and dense, with parts of its surface covered by a dark brown layer of iron and manganese oxides, as if painted with lacquer. it looks smooth and rounded, and from a distance feels full of history. according to legend, the stone sways when the wind blows, but never falls, which is why people call it the “wind-swaying stone.”
