jinshan temple is fuzhou’s only ancient riverine temple, standing alone on a tiny islet in the middle of the min river. founded in the song dynasty nearly a thousand years ago, it was built closely around a small rocky hill and an ancient song pagoda.
though petite in scale, it features a distinctive floating appearance: the entire temple seems to drift on water when the river tide rises.
a favored retreat for literati across dynasties to admire river scenery and compose poems, it is fuzhou’s most recognizable thousand-year waterfront cultural landmark.
